Stuck In My Head – Vivian Blane (or Prelude to my Ode to AFL)

A week ago I hadn’t even heard of this song.
However a fortunate twitter conversation with @weareaustralia (australia’s curated twitter account) led me down a rabbit hole to find this song.

It tells the charming story of Johnny and Flo who have a regular Sunday outing to go “rowing”.
But best of all, it’s also the song which the Richmond club song is based on (but more on that tomorrow.)

Please compare and contrast the two versions.

And as always, here’s the full ‘Stuck In My Head 2013’ playlist.

Stuck in my head – Yeasayer

I’m counting down to Laneway!

Laneway is fast overtaking Southbound as my favourite festival of the year. And this year the lineup is just steller. I’ve missed one Laneway in the last 4 years and I’m still disappointed with myself.

I’ve already featured most of the lineup with alt j ms mr cloud nothings divine fits and of monsters and men

Well I need to make a decision whether I’ll see cloud nothings or divine fits as they’re playing at exactly the same time (boo! but inevitable).
Fortunately no one clashes with Yeasayer. They were at the Laneway that I missed 3 years ago, so now I’m making up for not seeing them earlier.

I’m also trying very hard to not research any more Laneway bands. My day is already too packed!

Stuck in my head – Local Natives

I only just discovered Local Natives about a week before they release their new album, but they’re old album is definitely worth a listen.
A bit like a simpler Cold War Kids, but with less piano. I’m not selling them, but they do sell themselves pretty well.

listen to their first album or their second

(For extra credit – here’s Cold War Kids new song)
