The polka-dots remind me of sunshine.

I made another hairpin skirt.
This time with a sewing machine and with more material.

I adore it!

I used more material than last time to make it really gathered. I also made it even longer as I’m sick and tired of skirts that I can’t bend over in. This skirt design is so super easy it took me less than an hour. Three seams, some elastic and you’re done.
And top tip, the polka dots mean that it’s really easy to see where you’re cutting. I measured everything in polka-dots!

I want to twirl around and sing songs to woodland creatures.
(Maybe it’s because of my new The Little Mermaid iphone case that I’m thinking disney. I’m so supercool.)

I may even attempt to take some decent outfit photos for this one (instead of hiding out in the work bathrooms). Now that’s me stepping outside of my comfort zone.

Grr Argh

I just bought the cutest thing!!!

And I think this officially makes me a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan.

Any regular Buffy watchers would know the zombie that crosses the screen at the end of every episode. Well now that sound is my email ringtone (check out this post on how to convert mp3s to ringtones, and used a free YouTube to mo3 software to grab something off YouTube) and I wear this bracelet on my wrist.

Justduckydesigns is the shop and I am super impressed. I absolutely love it!! And now have my eye on a pair of doctor who bowtie earrings

a little football mad

Inspired by sarahcastically’s post about her hockey outfits, and a twitter war about football and merch, I thought I’d share some photos from Saturday’s game.

For those who live under rocks, I’m a Port Adelaide supporter. This is unusual given that i live in WA and not in Adelaide.
Even more unusual, I live with an Adelaide supporter. Adelaide supporters and Port Adelaide supporters aren’t meant to like each other. And two Perth born people aren’t meant to support opposing Adelaide teams and fall in love, but that’s what happened.
(We’re certainly not meant to start watching NFL and support Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings either! We’re all about the rivalry).
It’s a very confused household. Certainly more confused by my best friend, who doesn’t and has never lived with me, but has a wall of (some of) her supporters merchandise. When we go to games we always leave from my place so it makes sense. Or maybe it doesn’t. Nevertheless there is a wall of Hawthorn merchandise in my tiny apartment. But she always support my team and I support hers, unless we’re playing against each other when it’s pistols at dawn, bitches.

So, on Saturday my team were in town. They have 1 maybe 2 games in Perth a year and I try to see them as much as possible. While I wasn’t pleased with the result (we lost by 5 points) I was pleased with the effort that we* showed.

It was a gorgeous day (even with the result) and I’m looking forward to the season.

Now prepare to be impressed by the merch I took to the game (and trust me, there is more!), and the sunset on the way home.

*yes i’m one of those people who include themselves in their football team.

A lovely floral number

I have a floral addiction. It’s not always that I can find long dresses.
I’m 5’10 which means I’m the shortest in my family, but tall by dress making standards.

It’s from temt, who always have really cheap but cute clothing. I think temt must be the forever 21 of Australia. This dress was on $7 on sale and I love it.

It has twirl ability.

Weekend musings

I had the weekend to myself. Yay!

It’s not very often I do, but as the Mister went on a fishing trip (I love fishing trips) and it was a successful one so he was away for two nights.
Sure it means sleeping alone (being able to hog the bed), and fending for myself (fruit loops for dinner), but it’s nice to have some space too. (I’m trying to make out like I missed him – which I did).

So I cleaned the house and twirled around in new, pretty dresses.
I watched series 2 (including the Christmas episode) of Downton Abbey.
It wasn’t as well paced as series 1, but still enjoyable. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
I previously boycotted it, as I didn’t like the way it was being promoted on Australian Commercial Television, but after hearing so many good things on I decided I needed to give it a shot.
I watched everything I could in 3 days. Completely addicted. I grew so emotionally invested, in such a short space of time. I loved to hate O’Brien and Thomas, mourned for Daisy and William, and loved the spunk of Lady Sybil.

Alone time also means Mad Men. I rewatched series 4 (just because I could), as I got dressed up to go to my little brother’s graduation. 3 hours of clapping, but I am very proud that he found something he wanted to study and stuck with it long enough to get a degree (and I’m not saying that because he doesn’t stick with things, because he does. I just believe that’s a massive achievement).

I went shopping and bought some pretty dresses and new tights. Turns out not many places stock tights when its 35 degrees outside. But Myer had a 30% sale, so I stocked up (bright red! love hearts! roses!)

So all in all it was a lovely weekend to myself. And I am definitely glad of a relaxing weekend after the madness that has been the last few months. But it’s about to get hectic again soon.
I’m looking forward to Australia Day this week (4 day weekend). And the lovely Miss Stina is doing a guest post for me! (excitement!)
And then it’s a gig every week in February.
Excitement all round!

Hope you all had a good weekend – get up to much??

Pretending it’s winter

It’s raining in November. That’s really odd for Perth or even Australia. It’s almost summer and instead of being sunny and hot, it’s wintery and raining.
So I’m using the excuse to cosy up in my trackies and hoodie, make biscuits, and watch the rain.

I cast on the second of the basic training sock for my boyfriend over the weekend so while I’m in a sock mood I want to try and plow through it.

I’m thinking a cosy bowl of pasta will hit the spot as well.

Outfit post

It’s been a long time between outfit posts.
But I felt inspired by my new floaty top. And it’s a Friday afternoon and the Mister isn’t home (he would find the whole concept horribly narcissistic and pointless – and would probably ask why I think this outfit is worth taking a photo of).

Well of course it is narcissistic, but I’m ok with that.

And I love this outfit because it will be perfect for summer festivals, days at the cricket, or beer gardens by the beach.

Summer is in the air.

Sunglasses and bows

This is probably my favourite DIY.

Super easy. All you need is a wire coathanger and voila! Instant storage for sunglasses and hair bows.

It doesn’t work so well for bows on bobby pins, but anything with a clip works well.

It’s currently holds my trio of modcloth sunnies. I love floral sunglasses.
A collection of hair bows from around the place, but the big striped one I found in a boutique in Mandurah. It’s from the Davie Bow-ie collection. I just couldn’t resist.
