A slice of organic life

I was given this book a few years ago now, and it’s since become a constant companion.

It’s quite light on, but it does give a nice overview about living organically.

It makes me day dream about keeping pigs, and making jam, and living more sustainable.

I’m quite glad that my Mister shares these dreams and aspirations (even if he day dreams of chickens, ducks, geese, and weiros, which would be slightly more useful, but not quite as relaxing for this bird-fearing girl).

Last Christmas I started a trend of all handmade gifts. This year I intend on continuing that, but I do want to diversify. I also want to have those ‘last minute gifts’ handy in the cupboard.

So I spent most of this weekend knitting up dishcloths.
I felt very proud of myself as they were wish homespun yarn from our recent Bridgetown Adventure.

At the time I felt a little disappointed with this yarn, because I just didn’t know what to do with it. It is quite coarse and doesn’t feel nice on your skin; it wouldn’t be good for clothing.
But it is knitting up into dishcloths quite nicely, and I can see them being quite good for exfoliating cloths.

This is why I started looking through that book. I think these would be lovely presents with a home made lavender soap.
I have a lovely lavendar plant in my garden, which is very underused.
Unfortunately this book didn’t have a recipe for soap, but I will make a carrot soup tonight.

That’s the thing about football

Sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it doesn’t.
The only thing we can do as supporters is go to the games, support our club, and cheer on our side. And have a great time doing it.

Bridgetown adventures with Hipstamatic (and food)

This is a picture heavy post.

Can you tell I’m missing being on holidays??

These are adventures at Ford House (which i thought was a little overrated, but everyone else oohed and aahed over everything. I thought the grounds were really pretty and went to town with hipstamatic).

There’s also the caravan covered in newspaper print that was camped next to us.

And the fish pie from the Cidery. We had a pretty awesome taste of some ciders (they make them all on site), and some handcrafted beers (which were yummy) before a tasting plate and a main meal. Their salmon pate was divine. By the end we were liking it with our fingers.

Really missing camping now.

Bridgetown Adventures (pt 2) Nannup

I love going through photos after a holiday. I can reminisce and think about the good times. But also so close to the event I can remember all the things we said we’d do better next time.

Next camping trip we are not taking as much food.
This will be great as its one less thing for me to plan, but it’s also means spending money on local produce and wasting less food.

I don’t know why we hadn’t thought like this sooner.

And we have another place on the ‘to stay’ list. We did a day trip to Nannup and it was lovely. Full of little churches, interesting craft stores, and a good pub.
In fact the beef and gravy roll was a highlight. It came the day after I had burnt my mouth quite severely on a very hot honey carrot (to the point where it peeled most of the skin off and is now blistering 6 days later), but it just hit the spot I could eat it without too much pain.
Nannup was very pretty and I’d like to spend a little more time there in future.

Bridgetown adventures

Some photos from our 5 day holiday.
We stayed at the caravan park which is beautifully situated on the Blackwood River.
These are photos of our home for the last 5 days.

Oh it was really good to get away. I really want to get away again soon. 20120430-093548.jpg20120430-093624.jpg20120430-093645.jpg20120430-093747.jpg20120430-093804.jpg20120430-093822.jpg20120430-101128.jpg

I have no voice to speak of

Well the weekend got off to a bang when I made another hairpin skirt.
Then a yarn sale! Spotlight had all their yarn reduced so I picked up some more sock yarn (you can never have enough sock yarn!) and some Moda Vera Shiver in green.
Then it was back home to watch the football (port had a pretty dismal loss – with a very sickening injury in the last 30 seconds), and then go out to watch the football. The hawks – eagles game was very strange. And hawks lost which really sucked.
But at least it stopped raining after the girl next to me bought a $5 poncho. She was not impressed.

Then Sunday was spent In The Pines.
RTRfm is Perths community radio station, and they do a lot to promote local music. And in particular bands that wouldn’t otherwise have a voice.
And it was a tops way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Lieing on a picnic blanket with a couple (ok three) bottles of wine, some good music and great company.
In particular I think it might have been a first for a couple of the heavy metal bands to have someone knitting in their audience.

Dancing like a mad person to San Cisco, swooning at the sexy violin playing of The Kill Devil Hills, and rocking out to Sugar Army were the highlights of a wonderful day. Very impressed with the way it was organised and looking forward to going along next year. 20120423-130148.jpg

So another weekend passes by

Without much notice.

I swear this year is flying by. Unfortunately most of last week and weekend went by with me crook. All better now but my body definitely needed some rest.
So I clocked up a few hours playing final fantasy xiii. And by a few I mean a lot.

I was always a fan of ff7 growing up.
It really was the only video game I’d consistently play. Im hopeless at racing games and most other games give me motion sickness.
So when my parents bought us kids a playstation (none of this ps1 crap, I still have our old playstation and it still works) they bought me final fantasy 7.
And it was my first foray into a game that I could find enjoyable.
I’ve played it on and off for years now.
So for a present my boy bought me final fantasy 13. Ive been pretty blown away by the graphics.
I’m enjoying the game play too.
It’s a bit linear, and it took ages to get to the level up stage.
The leveling I find as the meaty part. I enjoy developing players and figuring out what they can do.
I am really enjoying the storyline as well.

And the whole world is filled with beautiful people and their beautiful hair.
Seriously it’s making me want to dye my hair. I’ve got a teal colour all waiting to go once the red/pink washes out.

So here is a picture of a really cool sunset from FF13

I make mistakes (sometimes) (quite often) (a lot really)

And so a long weekend passes with plenty of football, season 6 of Buffy, and a bit of knitting.

I finished my ‘sexy vesty’ which is rediculously too short. Almost a midrif vest. But really who else can I blame but myself.
I finished a pair of socks (which I knitted two together) but failed at the last minute by opting for a regular bind off instead of super stretchy. They’re super difficult to get on now. Lesson learnt.
I also started two scarves but frogged them both because I didn’t like what they were doing.
It sounds like a bad knitting weekend but it wasn’t. Ok it was, but it didn’t seem like it at the time.

I also discovered knit princess and am now in live with this comic.

I’ve never been an avid reader of web comics. My dedication has only really been to queen of wands and it’s sequel punch n pie.
And scenes from a multiverse for entirely different reasons.

But knit princess speaks to me as a knitter.
I particularly enjoyed her camping series (even if I don’t agree with it). Some of the comments are very insightful too.

So I went to sleep last night peacefully dreaming of knit stiches, pretty yarn (I bought some from etsy a whole back and am not so patiently awaiting its arrival) and knitting comics.

Does anyone know how to get rid of that hole when rejoining the heel to the rest of the sock? Or is it a curse of toe-up.
I had forgotten about that knitting mistake.

a little football mad

Inspired by sarahcastically’s post about her hockey outfits, and a twitter war about football and merch, I thought I’d share some photos from Saturday’s game.

For those who live under rocks, I’m a Port Adelaide supporter. This is unusual given that i live in WA and not in Adelaide.
Even more unusual, I live with an Adelaide supporter. Adelaide supporters and Port Adelaide supporters aren’t meant to like each other. And two Perth born people aren’t meant to support opposing Adelaide teams and fall in love, but that’s what happened.
(We’re certainly not meant to start watching NFL and support Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings either! We’re all about the rivalry).
It’s a very confused household. Certainly more confused by my best friend, who doesn’t and has never lived with me, but has a wall of (some of) her supporters merchandise. When we go to games we always leave from my place so it makes sense. Or maybe it doesn’t. Nevertheless there is a wall of Hawthorn merchandise in my tiny apartment. But she always support my team and I support hers, unless we’re playing against each other when it’s pistols at dawn, bitches.

So, on Saturday my team were in town. They have 1 maybe 2 games in Perth a year and I try to see them as much as possible. While I wasn’t pleased with the result (we lost by 5 points) I was pleased with the effort that we* showed.

It was a gorgeous day (even with the result) and I’m looking forward to the season.

Now prepare to be impressed by the merch I took to the game (and trust me, there is more!), and the sunset on the way home.

Death Cab For Cutie – Festival Gardens

I seem to be gushing a lot lately, but Death Cab on Saturday night were amazing. Festival Gardens is an awesome venue and I sincerely wish that it becomes a permanent venue, not just for 3 weeks during festival.

Couches should be mandatory at gigs. It felt like we were watching a band whilst relaxing at home.
It also helps when the band you’re watching is polished and professional.

Fun times.
