In fields where nothing grew but weeds,
I found a flower at my feet,
Bending there in my direction,
I wrapped a hand around its stem,
I pulled until the roots gave in,
Finding there what I’d been missing,

16. …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead – Will You Smile Again (133)
really in a trail of dead mood today – particularly after they’ve just announced new album set for release Feb 7.
i kinda can’t listen to this song without the prelude ‘ode to isis’ before it.
will you smile again has an awesome start – it was my ringtone for months
but ode to isis just contains everything i love about trail of dead, string orchestras, choirs, (doctor who soundtracks)
and then there’s the first time you listen to the song with headphones, as opposed to on a stereo, and you hear the super creepy
and, you, will, know, us, by, the, trail, of, dead
aargggh!!!!!

albums of the year
so, inspired by all the lists of the minute i’m putting together my top 10 albums list.
it’s limited to albums that i own, which is only 20.
the reason for this criteria is that i think in order for an album to be in my top 10 i should love it as an album – which i can only do if i can listen to it start to finish which usually involves me owning it.
so i’ve gone through the triple j album poll, made a shortlist of everything i bought this year (that was released this year) and here’s my top 10…

5. Silversun Pickups – Lazy Eye (165)

13. Portishead – Glory Box (140)
“so tired, of playing, playing with this bow and arrow
gonna to give my heart away, leaving to the other girls to play
cos i’ve been a temptress too long.
give me a reason to love you,
give me a reason to be a woman.
i just want to be a woman”
tempting as is it to just sing along with this, to pour my heart out to portishead as i’ve done so many times before, i have to concentrate.
try and bottle these feelings into a concise post which other people can actually understand, and not just a stream of consciousness about how i never felt like i was anything or anyone, and how this song tried to understand me. Continue reading 13. Portishead – Glory Box (140)
decisions decisions…
i am racking my brain trying to figure out what to wear this evening.
i’m going to see Bon Jovi!!!
my best friend in the entire world bought these super awesome tickets which involve a backstage tour and fan pack and dinner, and i told her that i would be ready at 3:00 which means i have to figure out what to wear now!
so i’m going through my entire wardrobe in my head and disregarding pretty much everything.
i really wish i had a virtual closet, like cher in clueless, that i could mix and match things.
all i have is my previous outfit posts and my memory.
i was thinking of wearing what i wore to the new pornographers – but it seems kinda strange to be able to wear the same outfit to two completely different gigs.
but i’ll post photos anyway
i didn’t previously because they both turned out horribly – because i was taking them in my room rather quietly because my boyfriend thinks its a bit strange and i haven’t really told him what i’m doing… he’s a bit anti-interweb.
but here they are…
is this a bon jovi worthy outfit?
i just don’t think it’s rock chick enough…

11. Billy Brag & Wilco – California Stars (143)
so the first thing that i do whenever i write one of these, what i now call “songs that itunes said, mean the most to me” posts, is listen to the song.
and as soon as i turned this on i started smiling.
“i like to dream my troubles are away on a bed of california stars”
i put my hands to cover my mouth, look towards the floor, silently smile to myself,
“i like to lay my weary bones tonight, on a bed, of california stars” Continue reading 11. Billy Brag & Wilco – California Stars (143)
james mercer kind of monday
Im having a very james mercer kind of day.
I set up a playlist with all of my shins albums, flake music albums, and broken bells.
I’m hoping that it will calm me down as I’m having a doctor who ‘I have a face that no one listens to’, ‘first rule; don’t wander off – why does everyone wander off’, kinda day.
Why don’t people listen to me, I know I like the sound of my own voice but I don’t just say things for the sake of them. I particularly don’t like wasting time just because someone hasn’t followed a clear instruction. I prefer to waste my own time however I choose.
Anyways james mercer, he is a legend.
He can write songs so beautifully.
He’s almost distracting me from Monday and a dismal cricket test.
12. The Butterfly Effect – Aisles of White (141)
Hey, wait, this time it’s not too late
To stop this ship from sinking
Don’t , go, so much you didn’t know,
It’s never what you’re thinking
This is from their Imago album which was released in 2006 – so it’s had a few years to get up the play count. Plus its just an absolutely awesome song.
It starts off so subtly, and all you can hear the pain and longing, until it builds and becomes a cry.
Words cannot describe my feelings towards this song. Continue reading 12. The Butterfly Effect – Aisles of White (141)
southbound fashion
well it’s less than a month till southbound now (awesome camping festival down south) and i’m getting my wardrobe organised.
went shopping today and found the most perfect bag! it’s this really awesome print and it just the right size for me to hold everything i need to but not need to be checked every single time i go in or out an entrance.
i also found two pairs of shorts, a duffle bag, and some much needed new underwear.
so this is outfit number 1. its new denim shorts with a really awesome rose belt, my favourite black minkpink shirt, a black headband with a bow on it, and a wickid pink leather bracelet. and of course the new bag…
