The Rapture – In The Grace Of Your Love

The antithesis of starring 5 songs on it’s first listen through (see ) is starring none.

I really wanted to love The Rapture’s new album.
Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks (their first EP but not the first in my collection – I’ll admit that much) was a solid EP hinting at the brilliance that was their debut Echoes.
Pieces of the People We Love was a great follow up, chock full of songs to dance to (including one of my favourite lyrics “too esoteric for a Saturday night”). It was a bit of a departure from their debut but I still loved it.
Tapes (their DJ album) was my running soundtrack for ages.
In The Grace Of Your Love sounds like they’ve used up all their tricks.

They’ve relied on their individual sound to carry them through, but there’s no substance.
Nothing that makes me want to get up and dance, and nothing that makes me feel like conjure up of thoughts of that magical moments when they play Open Up Your Heart at a festival.

Sail Away opens the album and whets the appetite for what’s to follow, but then the rest of the album fades away into nothingness.

Miss You comes the closest, with the signature handclaps that made Pieces of the People We Love, but it sounds like rapture-inspired rather than The Rapture itself.
Everything else seems to falls away into the abyss.

I hope that I’ll pick up this album in the peak of summer with fresh ears and rediscover it, but for the minute it remains a little unexciting.

When the moon hits your eye…

Like a big pizza pie, that’s amore.

I love that song.

And I love pizza, particularly when it’s made for me. I even had 34 cents of olives to keep me happy.
It’s a bit of a pain that the Mister won’t eat olives, but he loves me enough to put them on my pizzas because I love them. I have been known to polish off a tin of olives before they got into whatever I’m cooking.

So I’m afraid I don’t know what was in these pizzas. The only technique was “a little bit of this, and then a bit more, and then some more until it looked good”.

I was busy catching up on my EA sports work out challenge. Being unwell I missed 3 workouts so I did them all at once. I now have the program down to a pretty decent cost per use (well under the cost of a gym membership).
I love my body. It does most things I ask it to, even if it does creak and crack. I’m just acutely aware that we’ve both put on a bit of relationship weight. Probably because we’re eating so well!
So I’m trying to move a bit more, eat a bit better, and drink a bit less. I sleep better and am happier, less stressed and more positive when I exercise. All good things considering everything that is going on in my life at the moment. And if my clothes fit a little better that can only be a plus.

So mini pizzas, with bacon, onion, cheese, olives, basil, salami, and possibly some other ingredients.
Delicious.

there’s a pattern here somewhere…

Turns out even sewing patterns think I’m a strange size!
I bought my first sewing pattern yesterday and have dedicated a bit of time figuring it out.
The biggest challenge will be figuring out my size. My measurements fall either side of 14 and 16, of course the pattern I bought is sold in either 8 – 14 or 16 – 22. I went with the smaller one and I hope that I can adjust it somehow. It just seems a little ironic that I wanted to sew so that I could make clothes that fit me properly. It’ll all work out I’m sure.

I can’t wait to get started, but I know I need to take my time and read everything I can before leaping in and making a mess. I really just want to make a mess though.

I had some wonderful service from Textile Traders in Morley. The lady (Kate) helped me when I didn’t know how the patterns worked (you pick them from the book and they’re filed away). It sounds logical but it took me a while of staring at a tiny rack of boring patterns to ask.
She then showed me how to read the back of a pattern and find everything I needed, including some cheap fabric to begin with. Its a really
sweet, lemon yellow cotton with white butterflies on it. Textile Traders has now got a repeat customer.
And the added bonus, I won’t get distracted by knitting supplies because they don’t sell them.

I love the excitement and anticipation.

A footy game, a gig, and 5 days of sleep

…and you will know us by the trail of dead… was absolutely epic on Sunday night.
Words can’t even begin to describe it. That moment when you hear the riff to one of your all-time favourite songs, surrounded by people who love them aswell.
I may have screamed a little.

Between that on Sunday night and the football on Friday night I slept.
And slept.
Like Rip Van Winkle type of sleep.
I’m still not 100% but I’m back at work. I lasted at work yesterday for a grand total of 45 minutes of everyone telling me that I looked awful so I went home and slept some more (and watched some bad television).

Lets hope the new rapture album, a spotlight catalogue, project runway Australia finale, and a bowl of mac and cheese hits the spot.
Failing that a hot bath and some hugs from my man (or my dolls which now live in my clean spare bedroom).

FO – socks!

I got home from work at 11 o’clock and then slept for the 4 hours I should have been at work.

Once I came through I made my way to the couch.
Fortunately my boy can cook and he took good care of me, making a surf and turf with a side salad.

I also managed to finish off a pair of socks that I had started some time ago. They’re going to be a pair of three because you may notice that they’re different lengths and there’s already a hole in the toe of the first one. But there isn’t a hole in the second one so I’m getting better.

I’m home from work again today, but feeling better. Hopefully well enough to start a new pair of socks and finish off a selection criteria for a job I should apply for.
And trying not to fall asleep so I can get a decent nights sleep tonight.

xx

Too expensive for plastic seats – Avenue 9

I don’t like being disappointed by a restaurant.

Last week when we were on our way home from shopping (a desk, a sewing machine, a tripod, and a wii fitness game) and it was dreary and neither of us felt like cooking.

So we pulled into Avenue 9. And I’m a bit sad to say that I was disappointed.

It was very expensive for what it was. My Thai Beef Salad was $26, and it was drenched in dressing to the point that there was a pool on the bottom of the bowl.
The beef was cooked beautifully but there was too much dressing for my taste.

The Mister had the Chicken Caeser with Anchovies. The anchovies were on the side which was nice, but it was rather unremarkable. How hard is it for a resteraunt to do a chicken caeser these days.

And it took me a few looks at the beer list to find one that I would drink, which is usually not a problem for me.

The staff were really friendly and attentive but couldn’t pronounce the special of the day.

On our way out I did offer this feedback to the staff, who were quick to suggest they could definitely put the dressing on the side next time (which perhaps I should have done in the first place) but I don’t think there’ll be a next time.

If I’m paying $26 for a salad, I don’t want to be sitting on plastic seats.
