While you’re up, can you make me pancakes??

Sometimes you just want to spend all weekend on the couch with a heat pack. Only taking the occasional break to eat pancakes standing up in the kitchen.

And then play around with phonto whilst trying to ignore the fact that you’re a woman and your ovaries hate you.
I’m being very over dramatic, but I have my period and it hurts. Pancakes help.

And I made some mix for later. It’s not as good as using fresh ingredients, but it’s worth the convenience of being able to not worry about having milk and eggs in the cupboard.

Here’s to a lazy Saturday.

Grr Argh

I just bought the cutest thing!!!

And I think this officially makes me a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan.

Any regular Buffy watchers would know the zombie that crosses the screen at the end of every episode. Well now that sound is my email ringtone (check out this post on how to convert mp3s to ringtones, and used a free YouTube to mo3 software to grab something off YouTube) and I wear this bracelet on my wrist.

Justduckydesigns is the shop and I am super impressed. I absolutely love it!! And now have my eye on a pair of doctor who bowtie earrings

Superbowl Monday Morning

It’s a long overdue post but this year all three (the Mr, the BFF, and me) all managed to get the Superbowl Monday off work.
Last year we watched it How I Met Your Mother style. As in we all didn’t find out the score (a little easier in Australia but still not easy), and then watched it later that night (after watching said HIMYM episode).
This year we went to our friendly local (who has also hosted many a grand final, football game, post cricket celebrations, and general alcohol related frivolities) the inglewood, where bright and early (think 7am) we were at the pub with alcohol and tea in hand.

The atmosphere was great even if the score wasn’t (girls had pats, boys had giants). And cheering was done by all.

Bad pats!!

4 day weekend has passed with a whimper

Australia day, we drank Aussie beer, watched cricket, and listened to the hottest 100.

The day after Australia day (hangover day), I resigned myself to my hangover and watched an entire season on My Family and had some quality bonding time with my couch.
Air con was appreciated, particularly as it was pretty hot (42 I think) outside.

Saturday we went shopping for a new tv, and some more lazy viewing.
I bought a crepe maker (guess what we had for dinner) and we watched the Perth Scorchers lose the grand final (boo).

Sunday I finished my sockhead hat, and started a new sock, Scylla.
And started watching series 1 of Buffy. (and since bought the box set). I thought I’d have nightmares about creepy ventriloquist dolls but thank fully I didn’t.

And look what arrived Monday afternoon. The books I thought I’d read on the long weekend.

Weekend musings

I had the weekend to myself. Yay!

It’s not very often I do, but as the Mister went on a fishing trip (I love fishing trips) and it was a successful one so he was away for two nights.
Sure it means sleeping alone (being able to hog the bed), and fending for myself (fruit loops for dinner), but it’s nice to have some space too. (I’m trying to make out like I missed him – which I did).

So I cleaned the house and twirled around in new, pretty dresses.
I watched series 2 (including the Christmas episode) of Downton Abbey.
It wasn’t as well paced as series 1, but still enjoyable. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
I previously boycotted it, as I didn’t like the way it was being promoted on Australian Commercial Television, but after hearing so many good things on I decided I needed to give it a shot.
I watched everything I could in 3 days. Completely addicted. I grew so emotionally invested, in such a short space of time. I loved to hate O’Brien and Thomas, mourned for Daisy and William, and loved the spunk of Lady Sybil.

Alone time also means Mad Men. I rewatched series 4 (just because I could), as I got dressed up to go to my little brother’s graduation. 3 hours of clapping, but I am very proud that he found something he wanted to study and stuck with it long enough to get a degree (and I’m not saying that because he doesn’t stick with things, because he does. I just believe that’s a massive achievement).

I went shopping and bought some pretty dresses and new tights. Turns out not many places stock tights when its 35 degrees outside. But Myer had a 30% sale, so I stocked up (bright red! love hearts! roses!)

So all in all it was a lovely weekend to myself. And I am definitely glad of a relaxing weekend after the madness that has been the last few months. But it’s about to get hectic again soon.
I’m looking forward to Australia Day this week (4 day weekend). And the lovely Miss Stina is doing a guest post for me! (excitement!)
And then it’s a gig every week in February.
Excitement all round!

Hope you all had a good weekend – get up to much??

A socking good weekend

Well I’ve kinda finished my Christmas list. That is the list of what everyone’s getting for christmas.

When I say kinda, I mean not really and it’s almost certain to change.

But I did want to make some more socks, so I searched Ravelry for some socks/slippers which could be made using 8ply yarn. Specifically the Moda Vera Marvel I had in my stash.

I found this pattern, and set to work on them Friday night in front of a How I Met Your Mother marathon.

I’m pleased to say I finished them the next morning.

It was some pretty solid knitting, but they were surprisingly quick.

Even more surprisingly they matched!

I don’t know who will be getting them, one of the boys probably as they’re definitely boy sized.
I didn’t actually think they’d fit anyone until my Mister tried them on and they fit perfectly.

Now to make some more.

Comfort food – bacon is not a vegetable

Nothing quite like snuggling on the couch, with new Parks and Recs. Me casting on a new minion while my boy cooks me dinner.
We both had pretty crappy days so the image of Ron Swanson swiveling around in his idea of hell (a circular desk) was just what we needed.

The mashed potato has bacon in it.

It’s nights like this I’m so grateful I have found someone so wonderful to share my life with.
I’m one lucky girl.

Muffins on a Monday

Womanhood has never been too kind to me. Growing up they were horrible. I’d have days where i just couldn’t get out of bed. The pill was really good, but i was terrible at taking it. Implanon makes my cycles really irregular but they’re back to their former suckiness. But this is not a post to whinge about my period. But it did so happen that’s why I’m home from work on a Monday.

And trying to make the best out a bad situation I made cheese and bacon muffins for lunch, and spent all day working on a pinwheel purse and watching Freaks and Geeks

I can think of worse ways to spend a Monday.

Post brownlow nachos

Monday night was the Brownlows. The brownlows are the best and fairest for the AFL (Australian rules football).
It’s a chance to reminisce on the year of football as they go through every round winners and losers. My bestie comes round, we make snippy comments about how badly dressed the WAGs are, and we reminisce about a year of football. Usually it’s, that night at the pub when this happened or, that’s when we got all prettied up and went to watch the football at the Casino. There’s a drinking game involved and it’s generally a good night on the couch.

Which leads me to Tuesday, and my second hangover in five days. (I’m not usually such a lush. It’s football finals season, so expect another one on Sunday the day after the grand final).

So hangover food for me is a lot of food. My body tried to soak out the excess alcohol so I end up eating a lot of grease, starch, and cheese.

So after I got home from work, had a nap on the couch, all I wanted was nachos.

These are my nachos – the Mr has a different recipe and thinks mine are terrible. But he didn’t go to work yesterday, so he got stuck with my nachos.

The recipe.
Put corn chips in a tin.
Smother with chicken, salsa, and cheese.
Put in the oven until cheese has melted.

The photos aren’t pretty.
But it tasted good.
