Getting organised

Well even if I haven’t kept to my blogging schedule (a weekend camping festival kinda ranks on the priority scale) I have been busy organising things at home.

I went through my stash with a box of glad bags and a permanent marker.
Now I don’t have the hugest stash (it fits quite neatly in a hamper in the living room), but it was getting out of control.
I could never find what I was looking for, my circular needles were getting all tangled, and it was starting to overflow.

So now all my circular needles have their own bag (clearly labelled by size and length), and all my yarn is all in bags labelled and ready to go.
I also put my yarn and needles on Ravelry.
I aim is to use Ravelry more this year so I don’t have the same Christmas panic as I did this year. And also so others can learn from my mistakes and successes.

The other thing I’ve done is made a cleaning schedule.
I’m not a clean person. I don’t get any satisfaction from cleaning when I could be doing more important things like sitting on the couch.
But the mess is starting to get to me more and more. So I wrote down everything in the apartment that needs cleaning. I divided that into frequency and then put that onto a calendar as recurring tasks with that frequency.
That was the fun part.
Now I have to stick with it.

There are four things I want to do everyday.
– make my bed
– clear up all the dishes (from the bedroom, lounge etc
– wash all the dishes
– no clothes on the floor

Last night I got off to a good start, I swept the floor (as it was Wednesday), did all the dishes, and did a few loads of washing in an attempt to get all our clothes organised (post-camping festival).
I now remember I forgot to make my bed this morning, so day 2 isn’t going quite so well, but it will go better once the Mister is back at work and I’m not getting ready in the dark trying not o wake him.

Hopefully the schedule will keep me motivated about the small stuff, and get me to remember the big stuff that only happens now and again.

Happy New Year

Happy Christmas and New Year to you all.
I’ve enjoyed my little break. I finished most of my Christmas knitting and baking with some time to spare and even made a few pressies for myself.
I’ve had a bit of time off work to relax and unwind, but after being a month old at the new job I only took the Public Holidays off – but still two long weekends in a row was quite nice.
I spent a lot of time catching up with friends and family, my liver took a bit of a beating but I’m glad to be back talking to you all.

Last year was a fantastic year. I saw so many great bands and have so many good memories. I learnt how to knit (and can’t imagine a time when I haven’t knitted), I bought a sewing machine (and vaguely know how to use it), and I tried my hand at embroidery.
My boyfriend moved in. We had a few notable events together. I looked after him when he got his wisdom teeth out, we endured the great flood (two bedrooms of sewerage is not fun), gave police statements (whilst our apartment was unliveable due to the great flood), and eventually got life back to normal. We both changed jobs (for the better), celebrated new couch day, new mattress day, and new ipad day.

My best friend moved in down the road. Together we’ve laughed until we cried, cried until we had to laugh, seen cricket matches, football matches, and spent a lot of time at The Belvoir (The Getaway Plan, Portishead, Cold Chisel, & Gotye – in the space of two months).

We ended the football season where we started it, at The Inglewood. How much of our time and money has been spent there this year? I don’t know, but it’s been a faithful friend.

And soo much good music. Southbound started the year with a bang, Soundwave, On The Bright Side, Future of The Left, And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, The National .
And new albums too!

The Hairpin and Ravelry have become two very close friends. Between them and all my blog friends, there is all of my internet time.

So here’s to 2011 – and here’s to 2012 being just as good.
Cheers
Happy wine drinking season. Hope you all have a happy boxing day test eve tomorrow

anything we need from the shops? – google docs to the rescue

Being the technology lover that i am, i’m always looking for ways that technology will help improve and generally make my life easier.

I’m the main shopper for the household. It’s something that i’d like to be able to delegate without ending up with a cupboard full of pop tarts and steak.
But as i generally end up going to the shops straight after work, i always end up sms-ing the boy with something along the lines of “anything we need from the shops?” or “you wrote something on the fridge that we ran out of, what was that again?”.
All of which results in me going to the shops (which i hate), walking around the shops in a rage, and getting home and remembering what i needed to buy.

I knew that somewhere out there, someone else shares this problem.
And given that we both have iphones, there has to be an app for that.

Not that I could find, but I found a solution anyway.

Google Docs.

I created a shared document, which both of us can edit, and put a shortcut on each of our home screens.
Now when I’m shopping I can pull up the shopping list and not forget anything (or at least absolve blame).
And if I need to I can send J shopping and he (theoretically) can return with a balanced shopping trolley.

Items can be added as inspiration strikes, and live updating means that if i need to add something while J’s at the shops he can get it straight away.

It’s the best solution that i’ve found for sharing shopping lists between iphones, or indeed smartphones.

albums of the year

so, inspired by all the lists of the minute i’m putting together my top 10 albums list.
it’s limited to albums that i own, which is only 20.
the reason for this criteria is that i think in order for an album to be in my top 10 i should love it as an album – which i can only do if i can listen to it start to finish which usually involves me owning it.

so i’ve gone through the triple j album poll, made a shortlist of everything i bought this year (that was released this year) and here’s my top 10…

4. Rise Against – Worth Dying For (169)

Set me off like dynamite strapped tight around my waist
We are the ones in competition but claim this ain’t no race
Take a breath and explode like bullets tearing through the wind
Cut me up with a razor blade that tries to separate the skin

this was one of those songs that was on the set of 4 mix tapes that my boy made me about 2 months into dating; he’s introduced me to a lot of music, and i’ve introduced him to a lot of music. We’ve shared our tastes quite a bit – and we both have similar views about downloading and have massive CD collections which, if we move in together, will become one massive shrine. We’ve already stopped buying duplicates. Continue reading 4. Rise Against – Worth Dying For (169)

lists and lists

Im making a list and singing vegietales – I love my lips…

Wow I have a lot of things to do today…
Preparing for going camping certainly involves a lot. We’re getting better and more planned but I still have a to-do list as long as my arm.
So this afternoon I have to
– Buy more work shoes
– Buy shorts / hoodie / bag?maybe
– Try to not get too distracted at the Galleria (which is where I think I’ll go shopping – I may go harbour town but I hate having to pay for parking)
– Go to the supermarket (which I may do while I’m at the Galleria just because the coles next to my place is frickin manic. all. the. time.)
– Figure out what we’re going to have for dinner tonight
– Make a scone mix for the weekend (I learnt how to bake scones in a bbq and can’t wait to try it)
– Make potato cakes for the Saturday breakfast
– Wash and redye my hair
– Pack! Always important…
and I think that’s it…
I’m sure I’ve forgotten something – I always forget something.. .
Now I just need to make shopping lists and a list of things to pack.. .

Did I mention I love lists?

Breakfast Saturday Morning
– Bacon
– Eggs
– Mushrooms
– Bread
– Potato
– Onion
– Sausages (small)
– Tomato
– (can you buy tomato sauce/bbq sauce in individual packets?
– milk

To pack for Breakfast Saturday morning

– Anything else that I’ve forgotten about?? Eep….
But Friday afternoon – camping here we come!!!

Did I mention I’m excited?

is it friday yet?

I got my box set of how i met your mother yesterday and i really want to watch it…
But this week has been such a disaster i havent had a chance.
I want it to be friday
1) because fridays are usually awesome
2) because i’ll have my house to myself
3) i’ll be able to stop thinking about how to solve work problems and just think about solving life problems…

Real life can be tricky sometimes – which is another reason i want to sink into tv-land.

1. Children Collide – Say You’re Wrong (262)

Coming in at number 1 with a whopping 262 playcounts…
“i’ve locked myself inside my head until you’ve gone away”

This was the first children collide song i ever heard and i still frickin love it.
